Chestnut Mountain - It was not your usual race car event Friday at Lanier National Speedway in South Hall County.

The cars were miniature solar powered sprint racers and the race car crews were middle school students from all over Northeast Georgia. Banks County was the winner twice; judges were not sure so the solar panel powered racers whizzed down the track twice in the final heat.

The only thing that slowed these little racers down was the shade, if a car was unlucky enough to run under a shady spot on the track. Twelve area middle schools sent cars and teams to this event hosted by Jackson EMC aimed at a lesson on how to use alternative energy.'

Fourteen year old eighth grader Dustin Hulsur from Banks County was impressed.
