GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's 9th District Congressional candidate told a room full of supporters Tuesday night he's ready for the campaign trail leading to the June 8th primary.

If former state senator and Gainesville dentist Lee Hawkins is worried about garnering just over 23 percent of the vote and being in second place in the race he did not show it when he took the podium with his family at the Holiday Inn.

"During the next four weeks we're going to run harder," Hawkins said.

Supporters in Sidney 'Lanier Room A' spent the evening anxiously watching the big board as the election results appeared, supplied by the Hall County Elections Office and the Secretary of States Office.

Hawkins said when he wins the 9th District seat, he wants all his friends and supporters to come see him and watch him bring true conservatism back to Capital Hill. He added that the Washington political machine could not stop him.

"Someone got Washington to spend about $400,000 running a race against a 'little boy' from Gainesville, Georgia, and they did not run us out of the race," Hawkins told the cheering crowd. "We're going to work hard and we're going to win this thing."

His big win district wide was in Hall County, his home county.
