In an interview earlier this week, Bankhead said that Internet child pornography is widespread in the state of Georgia. In fact, the GBI is the leader in arrests among agencies involved with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).
He says child porn has tainted what was designed to be a good thing...the Internet.
"The dark side is the proliferation of child porn out there that is obviously illegal, and it keeps these agencies that are involved in the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force very busy," said Bankhead.
ICAC is a coalition of 61 agencies across the nation, including the GBI, designed to combat Internet child porn.
Bankhead says those arrested usually are not producing the images themselves.
"They're images that are shared by people who are interested in this type of thing," said Bankhead.
Bankhead made his comments after the arrest last week of a Murrayville man whose laptop computer was confiscated at a computer repair shop.
