Junior Fishing Champs coming in August

GAINESVILLE - City Council learned Tuesay that Gainesville will be the site for the 2010 Bass Federation Junior World Angler Championship, expected to bring in around $250,000 in economic impact.

Convention and Facilities Sales Manager Tracy Whitmire said the junior tourney takes place in conjunction with the FLW Pro Tournament August 5-8.

"It's actually two junior anglers from every state in the United States and one province in Canada," she said.

Whitmire said the event should bring enough visitors to occupy 450 hotel rooms in Gainesville. In addition to fishing, the junior anglers will enjoy a pizza party at the Georgia Mountains Center hosted by the National Guard.
