CLERMONT -Hall County fire crews respond to a blaze Monday afternoon that occurred on Cleveland Highway near Jess Helton Road. When firefighters arrived on the scene, one chicken house and a shop building were fully involved.

According to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell, two other chicken houses caught fire as well, which resulted in several small grass fires. Kimbrell said they asked for help in battling the fire.
"We did ask for White County to bring a tanker and also Habersham County to bring a tanker," said Kimbrell from the fire scene. "And, the city of Gainesville is covering some of our areas in town."

Kimbrell estimated some 25 to 30 Hall County firefighters were on the scene of the blaze. He said fire officials arrived at the scene at approximately 3:45 p.m. Kimbrell talked about what happens when a chicken house comes down after catching fire.
"When chicken houses collapse like that, the metal all falls in and causes a tremendous problem. So, we have to hand-pick that metal out."

Kimbrell said that despite the heat, firefighters battled the fire safely.
