GAINESVILLE - There is a new life jacket station at the beach at Clarks Bridge Park on Lake Lanier in Hall County, and parents and kids have a 16 year old Girl Scout for the idea. Marine Patrol Sheriff's Deputy Chris Robinson and his daughter Rebecca erected the station Wednesday afternoon and posted eight child sized life jackets to make it much safer.

"I learned that the park did not have a sign or station and I wanted to do something about it so with my Gold Award I had the opportunity to do something about it," she said.

Deputy Robinson said all of the county's parks with beaches including the two operated by Hall County and Corps of Engineer parks with beaches now have life jacket stations with the one set up at Clarks Bridge; the life jackets were donated by Safe Kids of Gainesville/Hall County.

"Every beach within the county will have a life jacket station for the children to borrow while they swim and return when they leave," Robinson said.

Tosha Lowman from Banks County said she frequently visits the beach at Clarks Bridge Park and was glad to see the station set up.

"We come out here with the kids about three or four times a week." Lowman said. "This is good because some of them don't have life jackets, they use 'floaties' but these are better."

Lowman said a life jacket would have really been welcome when she recently spotted a small child who went out too far and appeared to be in trouble. She said she was able to get him back to shore safely.
