GAINESVILLE - Voting in Hall County in today's runoffs appears steady and heavier than it during the July 20 primaries.

Interim elections director Charlotte Sosebee says as of 10:00 Tuesday morning, almost 4,200 votes had been cast at 39 voting locations, compared to nearly 4,000 on three weeks ago.

The activity at the Georgia Mountains Center attested to that, according to poll manager Pat Rail, who said that by 11:30, 127 ballots had been cast, at least twice the number at the same time July 20.

Voting in the August 10th runoff appears steady and heavier than it was on Primary Day July 20th at Gainesville's downtown precinct at the Georgia Mountains Center (Gainesville Precinct #4), according to Poll manager Pat Rail.

Around 4,000 early voters cast ballots in Hall County, the fourth-highest number in the state. Statewide according to the Secretary of State's Office, 78,000 early voter ballots were cast and there are 25,000 still uncounted mail-in ballots. Cobb County led early voting with 6,300 ballots.

Political observers are predicting a low voter turnout across Georgia because of the summer heat and the expected lack of interest in runoff elections. Georgians who did not cast a primary ballot on July 20 may vote either Republican or Democrat in the runoffs, as long as you are registered to vote, but if you voted a Democratic ballot July 20 you must vote a Democratic ballot today and if you voted a Republican ballot July 20 you must vote a Republican ballot today. Polls are open until 7:00.
