CLEVELAND - A 62-year-old Cleveland man, checking his tree stand in preparation for deer season, was injured when he fell about 25 feet.

White County Fire Department spokeswoman Ana Newberry said in happened about 5:30 Wednesday afternoon. That's when volunteers from stations 2 and 4 got the call to Georgia Highway 254 near Sam Craven Road.

Newberry said, "upon arrival, we found that a man was in the wooded area assessing his tree stand when it dislodged from the tree and both he and the stand fell approximately 25 feet to the ground."

Firefighters used an ATV to get to the site and get the man to an ambulance for transport to an awaiting ambulance helicopter.

Air Life 2 was requested by White County Emergency Medical Services to take the victim to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. According to Newberry the man was airlifted to Atlanta due to the nature of his injuries.
