GAINESVILLE - Volunteers who want a trash free Lake Lanier gathered once again Saturday morning to pick-up trash bags and go to work during the 22nd Annual 'Shore Sweep' hosted by the Lake Lanier Association.

At 13 locations in four counties big dumpsters were set up and the big black garbage bags were waiting; at Clarks Bridge Park near Gainesville Sarah Brookshire with the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club combined paddling with trash pick-up.

"We can see the trash when we're paddling and we want to see it kept a bit cleaner," Brookshire said.

John Bradley said he's been handing out trash bags for five years at Clarks Bridge with his dad Howard, whose been helping out for 10 years.

"Keeping it clean all year around would help but for those times that it can't happen that's why we come out here and help keep it beautiful," Bradley said.

The volunteers got a 'Shore Sweep' t-shirt and an appreciation party for their efforts at North Van Pugh Park near Flowery Branch.
