(Cleveland)- White County's new five person commission board had their first meeting Monday.   It was a work session where the commissions review items for the upcoming monthly meeting.  The commissioners ran into their first area of disagreement when the item came up to discuss  changing the county code dealing with portable signs.  Currently they are illegal, but the county isn't enforcing the regulations.  The proposed change would allow businesses to keep the portable signs after paying a $50.00 annual fee.

Commissioner Terry Goodger told the board he has a problem with that.   After some discussion Commission Chairman Travis Turner suggested they move that item to the end of the meeting and bring it back up for discussion, when they did they still were not able to get  total agreement on the issue.

The board finally agreed to bring it up for discussion and decision at next Monday's Commission meeting giving the members some time to examine the issue further. T

The board will be meeting this Thursday to talk with people who have expressed interest in serving on one of several boards that have positions that need to be filled for the coming year.

The commission agreed to put on hold proceeding any work on building designs for a new fire station on Asbestos Road north of Cleveland.  Commission Chairman  Travis Turner said they want to devote all their energy in establishing an new convenience center for the northern part of the county. Lots of citizens have express their displeasure that the center located next to the county detention center was removed to make way for the new  jail facility.
