GAINESVILLE - Georgia's new governor was blessed Sunday morning at his home church, First Baptist Church on Green Street in Gainesville.

Much of the service was delayed a week because of the massive snow and ice storm that struck the state last Monday, Inauguration Day.

The First Baptist choir accompanied by the Mercer University Center for Strings from Macon performed "Thou, Oh Lord," a hymn they planned to perform at the prayer service which was scheduled last Monday morning at Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta but hand to be canceled because of the weather. Rev. Bruce Morgan preached the sermon Sunday he had planned to preach a week ago, and the Gov. and Mrs. Deal received the blessing of the church and a prayer.

"You, gathered here today, were the secret warriors and the secret weapon that we had that led to victory," Gov. Deal said, in response to the blessing.

First Baptist Music Minister Mark Green said last week was disappointing that things worked out.
"We had worked so very hard to get ready for it and we were just really bumbed because we had looked forward to it so much ," Green said. "In a way it's even more special to do it at Governor Deal's home church."
