CLEVELAND - White County firefighters spent most of Monday afternoon batteling a chicken house fire on Cooley Woods Road south of Cleveland, near Post Road.

White County Fire Department spokeswoman Ana Newberry says firefighters were dispatched shortly after noon, and since the structure was fully involved when they arrived their primary job was to save nearby exposures.  That task was made more difficult because of the windy conditions.

Newberry said there were no chickens in the building but it was being used for wood storage.

Cooley Woods Road was closed while firefighters battled the blaze.

Assisting in fighting the fire were the Cleveland Fire Department and firefighters from Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto.
