The award will be presented Thursday in Atlanta at the 26th Annual Governor's Awards in the Humanities luncheon, sponsored by the Georgia Council on the Humanities (GCH) and the governor's office.
The purpose of this event, according to the GCH Web site, is to celebrate the impact of public humanities programs across Georgia.
Twelve local community members from around the state will receive Governor's Awards in the Humanities medallions "in honor of their impact on Georgia's communities through history, literature, ideas and culture."

Gwen Hutcheson, Athens
Christine Lambert, Madison

Clayton Shotwell, Augusta
Annette Wise, Plains
Georgia Women of Achievement, Macon
Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, Athens
Past recipients include First Lady Rosalynn Carter of Plains, The Ritz Cultural Theater in Albany, and author Terry Kay of Athens.
