White County fire department responded to a structure fire Friday morning West of Cleveland on Redbud Dr off Highway 115. Ana Newberry fire department spokeswoman said when the first units, heavy smoke was coming from the mobile home. According to Newberry the smoke covered Highway 115 making it extremely dangerous for motorist traveling the highway see oncoming traffic.
Occupants were home at time of the fire and were able to get out, a family pet did perish in the blaze.
Another fire Friday afternoon had firefighters responding to an unoccupied house on Skitts Mountain Road at Ray Palmer Road.
Newberry said the wife of a firefighter who lives near the home spotted the blaze around 3:20 PM. and alerted her husband who called for a full response.
Fire units from stations 4,5, the city of Cleveland and ladies of Lee Arrendale Institute were dispatched.
Newberry said the residence was a total loss and no injuries were reported.
Fire fighters were called out early Sunday morning around 2:00 AM to another structure fire on Asbury Mill Road, west of Cleveland. Newberry advised, upon arrival firefighters reported flames and heavy smoke showing through an upstairs window. The side of the home and roof areas were damaged by fire. The home sustained extensive damage.
Investigator Wilkins advised that the cause is unknown at this time however, it is not suspicious in nature. The Red Cross was contacted to assisted the homeowners. No injuries were reported.
