GAINESVILLE - No one was hurt, but two people were arrested after an off-duty Hall County jailer became embroiled in a domestic altercation with a female friend early Saturday morning.

Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said 20-year-old Conner Comeaux was arrested just after 1:30 a.m. after he discharged a shotgun outside a house on Venture Drive.

"The shotgun was apparently fired into the air and was not fired at a person nor anyone's property," said Wilbanks.

Comeaux had been employed as a jailer for Hall County since May 2011. He has been placed on administrative leave while his employment status is reviewed, according to Wilbanks.

"We realize that we are held to a higher standard as public safety employees," said Wilbanks. "It's incumbent upon us to demonstrate to the public that we hold ourselves to the same standards that we hold the rest of the citizens of Hall County.

Comeaux was booked into the Hall County Jail, where he was charged with simple battery, reckless conduct and discharging a firearm near a public roadway. He is currently free on $7,600 bond.

Deputies also arrested Courtney Barker, 19, of Gainesville and booked her into the Hall County Jail, where she was charged with simple battery. She has been freed on a $5,000 bond.
