FLOWERY BRANCH - The Hall County Republican Party packed a large crowd into the main meeting room at the Spout Springs Library in Flowery Branch Saturday morning for a mass precinct meeting to choose delegates for next month's county convention.

Hall Republicans convene for that meeting Saturday March 12 at the Gainesville Elks Lodge with 9th District Congressman Tom Graves as featured speaker. Party chairman Jim Pilgrim was pleased with the turnout Saturday, saying it was the largest turnout for a party meeting he has seen recently.

"It's a great crowd. We've got a lot of people interested in this election cycle coming up," Pilgrim said. "During this election cycle we have the presidential election, so we have an overflow crowd here today who are voting for their precinct officers and they're voting for delegates to go to the county convention."

Saturday's meeting began a new political year. Pilgrim called it "the grass roots start" that leads to the county convention, then the district convention, and then the state convention.

Pilgrim pointed to a "great" past election cycle during which Republican Nathan Deal of Gainesville was elected Governor and Republican Casey Cagle, also from Hall County, was re-elected Lt. Governor. The GOP also captured every elected state office, such as Agriculture Commissioner, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, etc.

"We're so proud of that and we're looking forward to this next election cycle," Pilgrim said.

Hall Republicans are watching elected Republicans to make sure they retain their conservative values and approach to government, Pilgrim observed.

"We're holding their feet to the floor," he said. "We're watching them to make sure they're true Republicans and that they follow the Republican platform."
