GAINESVILLE - A national television network anchor/reporter who said he believes in 'delivering good news in a bad news world' was Thursday night's featured speaker at the 2011 banquet fund raiser for the Gainesville Care Center.

Kelly Wright, anchor reporter for the Fox News Channel, told his story to a capacity audience in the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall. Wright said his mother,a 16 year old rape victim, chose to give him birth and life after she was offered an abortion 56 years ago.

"I'm not a product of rape, I am a product of courage," Wright said.

Wright was featured speaker at the main fund raiser for the organization that offers alternative ministry, services and education to save infants from abortion.

"This event is about life," Wright said. "This event is about hope and purpose, so I hope people leave here with a heartfelt understanding that they can be of help that they can help save a life. I hope my personal story of how I came into this world will resonate in their hearts and minds and thoughts; I hope they never look at this issue the same way."

Executive Director Ann Gainey was optimistic the banquet raised the money to meet this year's budget.

"We had 500 in attendance and our budget for this year is $230,000 and we just might make it," she said.

The banquet program also featured testimonies from young mothers and their partners who described how the Care Center had helped them make the right decisions about their pregnancy and birth experience.

The Care Center last year served 1647 clients, and saved 28 babies; since 1987 it has served 30,214 clients and saved 1,109 infants from abortion.
