GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Police Chief Brian Kelly headed the list of department heads presenting their budgets Thursday before City Council.

The Chief said his $8.5-million 2012 spending plan reflected the need to operate a police department in a recession economy.

"I've think we've done a great job over this past year with some of the reorganizations within the department to make sure we're giving the best service to our community for the least amount of cost," Kelly said.

Kelly said his 2012 budget was slightly larger than last year's to reflect utility costs in the new Public Safety Complex. He included an outdoor gun range, a new computer based 'paper less' record system, and more on board lap top computers in patrol cars in his budget.

Fire Chief Jon Canada and Chattahoochee Golf Course Director Roger Hogan also appeared before Council with their budget requests.
