Hamrick said he learned that Sandy Springs over the past five years has re-surfaced 81 miles of city streets. He said that's a lot of resurfacing and wants to know how they did it.
"I wonder how they appropriated that much money to take care of that particular project," Hamrick said. "If we could have our Public Works Director contact the Public Works Director at Sandy Springs, I would like to see how they were able to accomplish this, it was a great accomplishment."
Council approved a $55,000 re-surfacing on two sections of Industrial Boulevard that are in the city.
NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
The city police department picked up support from members of the Lyman Hall Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in getting Council to Proclaim the week of May 15 National Police Week in Gainesville.
SAR member Ed Rigel and his son appeared in Continental Army uniforms, saying National Police Week needs to be observed to honor the 19,000 officers nationwide who have died in the line of duty.
"It's not a well-known event and I was trying to get some publicity out to recognize our officers," Rigel said.
Chief Brian Kelly said three Gainesville officers would participate in the National Police Week observance May 15 in Washington, D.C.
