GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's Planning and Appeals Board Tuesday night approved variances to allow the proposed site of a regional Veterans Medical Clinic on McEver Road.

Now it's up to the VA to approve it and if they do the 22,000 square foot facility would be a regional VA clinic, the first in Gainesville according to developer Lee Hemmer.

"They've given us solicitation for offers, we've made our proposal to them, we hope they go with this site but they still have yet to make a decision," Hemmer said.

If VA approves the Gainesville clinic, the smaller 3500 square foot Oakwood clinic would close. Hemmer hopes to get the nod from VA later this month.

The site is on undeveloped property in McEver Road's 3100 block. To meet Department of Veterans Affairs standards developers ICCL, LLC asked for a rear yard buffer and an increase in the number of parking places.
