GAINESVILLE - Gainesville officials decided Saturday to wait for a nice warm day in June instead of a cold rainy day last November to hold the public grand opening of their new Public Safety Complex; with the grand opening came a new song for the city.

Enota Elementary School Show Choir Director Sheila Rogers said the 60 member choir of 3rd to 5th graders began rehearsing 'This is My Gainesville' two months ago.

"It's a song we originally sung as 'This is My Country' and when we were asked to do this I just decided it would be a great Gainesville song," she said.

Choir member, 10 year old 5th grader Cecilia Castro, said she enjoyed the warm reception from the audience.

"We got to be in front of an audience that appreciates that we came here," she said.

As Gainesville Mayor Pro Tem Danny Dunagan proclaimed that the Public Safety Complex came in on time and under budget, citizens came to have a look at the new facility on Queen City Parkway. One of those who said he liked what he saw was Andy Holland.

"It's a great addition to this side of town," Holland said. "I'll have to check it out while I'm here and see what it's all about."

Holland and others enjoyed tours of the Complex Justice Center, the court room and city council chambers, the Police Department and its outside exhibits, and visited the fire station where youngsters picked up souvenirs, donned fire suits, and got a ride on a fire engine 'tower'. They were also treated to homemade cupcakes compliments of city police officers and fire fighters.

Gainesville government, the municipal court, and the police and fire departments moved into the complex late last year but City Council decided to wait for warmer weather to hold the Grand Opening.
