GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to lease undeveloped park property to the Town of Clermont after assurance from County Attorney Bill Blalock that the property is properly insured.

Commissioners decided to remove the lease agreement with Clermont from the consent agenda, wanting to hear from Blalock before they voted.

"The primary carrier being the City of Clermont will have fire insurance and liability up to the amount of a million dollars," Blalock said.

Blalock said the county would provide secondary coverage. Mayor James Nix said the 37 acre park site could be used for walking trails and a soccer field eventually in the 25 year lease. The county purchased 41 acres on Main Street, Clermont, in 2007 for a future park and library site using SPLOST V funds. The County retains three acres for a future library site.

NO 'BOBCAT TRAIL' YET

There won't be a 'Bobcat Trail' at Sardis School in west Hall County just yet.
Commissioners appeared ready to approve acceptance of the 560 foot road connecting the Sardis Sports complex to Sardis Road and maintain it.
Public Works Director Ken Reardon asked them if they wanted to take money away from other projects.

"We're very close on our SPLOST resurfacing money this year," Reardon said. "It's very, very tight. We do have some funds in SPLOST we may can move into roads, but I'd have to get with Finance to see if we have the $30,000 to do this without deleting a road out of the contract that's about to be awarded."

Commissioners denied accepting the project 3-2; The Hall County Board of Education granted right of way on the road at their Monday meeting.
Commissioner Billy Powell suggested calling the road Bobcat Trail after the school mascot.
