CANTON - A 20-year-old maintenance man from Lumpkin County has been indicted in the beating, rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl at an apartment complex in Canton.

Daran Burns, the attorney for Ryan Brunn, said a grand jury indicted his client Monday on 13 felony counts in connection with the Dec. 2 killing of Jorelys Rivera. Those charges include murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, cruelty to children in the first degree, aggravated child molestation, false imprisonment, enticing a child for indecent purposes, sexual exploitation of children, making false statements and abandonment of a dead body.
Burns declined further comment.

Cherokee County District Attorney Gary Moss did not immediately return a request for comment.

Authorities found the child's body in a trash bin at the apartment complex three days after her mother reported her missing.
