GAINESVILLE - Gainesville realtor Frank Norton issued his Top Ten Trends in his annual Native Intelligence report to a capacity Georgia Mountains Center Arena audience Thursday night.

Norton told his listeners 2012 is not the end of the world, pointing out that the ancient Mayans ran their calendar out as far as they could imagine and stopped at 2012. He said he bases his advice and forecasting on data that shows housing inventory is shrinking, foreclosures are dropping and interest rates are at a historic low.

"The data is pointing to good news," Norton said. "We are getting better; we are still far away from complete recovery, but we are getting better."

Norton's trends for this year directed his listeners and readers to buy local products and services to keep sales tax dollars at home, and to buy and invest in American production.

He pointed to industry expansion in Northeast Georgia and advised that now is the time for those who have been saving to start investing to generate spending.

"We need to put money back into the system," Norton said. "We need to dig into our pockets and invest back into house hold goods and services, buy a new house, invest in business, and get business flowing. Two thirds of the economy has to do with spending and if we can get people to spend again in our local communities, then we'll pull ourselves up by our own boot straps."

Action Limousine Services owner Danny Hill of Gainesville was among the business people who came to hear the 2012 version of Native Intelligence. Hill said his business began to pick up in 2011's final quarter and he could use some good news in 2012.

"I hope the forecast is going to be good and that 2012 is going to be one of the better years we've had in a while," Hill said. "I hope everybody gets their interest back up and starts spending money."
