Sean Smith, who runs the park, went to Channel 2 News in Atlanta with the story that he was being forced to move from the property with little notice. At the time the story aired, Smith had about a month to relocate the 120 deer, llamas and other animals from the property off Highway 52 near Dawsonville.
Smith told reporters that he would need about $20,000 to move to a new location. He also said in the interview that he was hoping property owners would allow him to stay at the current site through the Christmas season.
Smith has operated the Amicalola Deer Park for 10 years, and it mainly serves as an outreach for special needs children and adults.
Two letters obtained from the attorney for EGD Properties,L.P., outline the demand for Smith to vacate the property. The first letter is dated July 12, 2012; the second letter is dated September 28, 2012. The attorney asserts Smith called the television station only after receiving the second letter.
In a phone conversation with AccessNorthGA.com, the attorney did indicate the property owners have been in discussion with the Department of Natural Resources should the responsibility of relocating the animals fall to them.
