According to Channel 2 News, 2-year old Tripp Halstead was outside of Cribs and Crayons day care in Winder when the accident occured. Tripp was initially taken to Barrow Regional Medical Center, but was later flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta when it became apparent further treatment was needed.
Speaking with Channel 2, Crystal Cordon, the boy's aunt, said the fallen limb resulted in a cracked skull that required immediate surgery. She went on to say, "Right now, he's in an induced coma, so they have had him on life support and everything, but we're not sure when they take that off what's going to happen."
A nurse who was nearby when the incident occured tended to the child until emergency workers arrived at the scene.
After performing the surgery, doctors informed the family that the swelling in Tripp's brain was worse than initially thought, but the family is still hoping for the best.
"We're just praying, and everyone here, and we're praying as hard as we possibly can that he will come through this," said Cordon.
