JASPER - The pilot of a small plane and his passenger walked away virtually unharmed after they made an emergency crash landing in Pickens County Sunday night.

The plane went down around 10:00 p.m. on Old Philadelphia Road near Wal-Mart in Jasper, according to a report published by Fox 5 News in Atlanta.

Authorities said the pilot appeared to lose control just before he set the plane down. The damage to the Cessna 210 apparently was caused by a fire hydrant the pilot hit.

There were no injuries on the ground.

The names of the pilot and his passenger, reportedly his wife, were not immediately available.

An investigation continues.
