Men who robbed Gainesville bank may have done same in TN

KNOXOVILLE, TN - The two men who robbed the Sun Trust bank branch on Thompson Bridge road in Gainesville on Dec. 11 appear to be the same men who robbed a Tennessess bank the day after Christmas.

The FBI has joined the Newport Police Department in the investigation of the armed robbery of the Tennessee State Banl on Epley Road iin Newport.

Agents said two men, one armed with an assault type rifle, entered the bank demanding money. After they obtained an undisclosed amount of money from the tellers, the two men apparently drove away in a silver SUV.

Both suspects are white males, one is thought to be in his mid-30s, while the other is believed to be in his mid-20s.

As in the Gainesville case, no one at the bank was hurt during the course of the robbery.
