Local STAR students and teachers nominated

GAINESVILLE- Each year local students and teachers are nominated for the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program. This years nominees will go to the Gainesville Elks Club on Tuesday, February 14 to be honored with a framed certificate and appreciation for their academic success. <br /> <br /> Students with the highest SAT score who are also in the top 10 percent in their class are nominated. Student nominees can then choose their STAR teachers, someone who has provided a positive influence through academics. <br /> <br /> The STAR program was created over 50 years ago, recognizing more than 22,500 students and just as many teachers. The PAGE foundation, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Department of Education coordinate the program. <br />
