KENNESAW - Even as Georgia continues to struggle with high unemployment, one Atlanta-based company is having a hard time hiring engineers, technicians and other workers even at six-figure salaries.

Novelis, a major producer of rolled aluminum and a leading recycler of soda and beer cans, says it's having trouble filling 20 openings at its new Novelis Global Technology Center scheduled to open in Kennesaw in June.

The Atlanta Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/Htns16 ) salaries don't seem to be an issue. The job openings for metallurgists, machinists and researchers offer wages that reach into six figures.

Stefan Erdmann, Novelis' vice president for global research, says one problem is that the company isn't well-known, despite employing 11,000 people in 11 countries and a customer list that includes Coca-Cola and Anheuser-Busch.
