Vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Daniels set the mood for the service, recalling the death of Christ over two thousand years ago. Loren Funk stopped his daily routine to participate along with several other parishioners.
"Not only are we very hopeful for Easter and Sunday, but we also have to remember what happened today," Funk said as he joined the service.
Hymns like the 'Old Rugged Cross' blended with new faith music according to music minister Bill Risinger.
"We try to reach all generations," Risinger said. "We're doing some of the newer songs and some of the old songs."
Lakewood pastor, the Reverend Tom Smiley, said the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the Christian faith.
"We hope people will have an opportunity to reflect and meditate and consider the sacrifice and the death of Jesus and how his sacrifice is the payment for our sin," he said.
Dr. Smiley said Easter attendance is increasing at his church with three separate worship venues reflecting a renewed interest in the Christian message.
