GAINESVILLE - In a letter to Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver, engineers with the State Department of Transportation said they are ready to install warning beacons, a traffic signal and a turn lane on Georgia Highway 365 at its intersection with Howard Road.

The letter from District Engineer Bayne E. Smith, dated May 2, said that the most immediate move will be the installation of intersection warning beacons and a traffic signal at Howard Road. Engineers have also planned a left turn lane from Howard Road eastbound to Georgia Highway 365 northbound.

The intersection has been the scene of 15 reported accidents since the first of the year, the latest on April 24 when a Clayton woman was killed.

The letter offered no time frame for the work to begin.

In addition, the letter stated that DOT would evaluate the intersection of Georgia 365 at Ramsey Road at the request of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce and officials from Kubota Manufacturing Company.

Hall County Administrator Randy Knighton said that county officials are pleased with the action of the DOT.

"This has been a concern of the Hall County Commission and other officials, obviously due to the number of accidents that we've seen along that stretch of 365."
