District Attorney Garry Moss cleared Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Yarborough after reviewing the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's report on the shooting.
Authorities said 16-year-old Andrew Messina was killed after he threatened officers with a handgun.
The boy's mother had called 911, saying her son was waiving a .357 magnum around their house in Woodstock, authorities said.
Authorities said at the time that officers were able to get the mother outside, but the boy would not leave. He was shot in the chest and died of his wounds at a hospital.
