BUFORD - After nine days of searching the waters of Lake Lanier, divers found the body of 13-year-old Griffin Prince Wednesday evening.

The teen's body had been missing since a boating accident on June 18 that also killed his 9-year-old brother, Jake.

In a statement released Wednesday night, authorities said the boy's body was located in 113 feet of water by the FBI dive team's sonar equipment, and Hall County Sheriff's Office divers made the recovery dive based on that information.

The teen's body has been transported to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.

According to a statement by the Department of Natural Resources, the search involved more than 10 agencies and organizations.

Hall County Sheriff Steve Cronic said it has been an ordeal for the Prince Family and for the searchers.

"For us, it was very important that we provide them (the Prince Family) with some closure," the Sheriff said. "It will never relieve the grief that they are feeling but at least it will provide them with some closure in this."

Earlier Wednesday, divers located what they thought was the site of the deadly boating accident last Monday on Lake Lanier.

"Divers involved in the recovery operation for 13-year-old Griffin Prince located items that they believe are consistent with the vessels involved in the crash," said Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks.

Wilbanks said that discovery was made around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Wilbanks did not specify at the time exactly what debris was recovered, but he said the area where the debris was located was between 100 and 150 feet deep with no visibility.

Griffin had been missing since around 10:30 last Monday night when the pontoon boat he was riding in was hit nearly head-on by a fishing boat. Authorities said Griffin's 9-year-old brother Jake was discovered dead at the scene.

Col. Eddie Henderson with the Department of Natural Resources said an investigation would continue to determine if further charges would be levied against Paul J. Bennett, 44, of Cumming, accused of boating under influence in the accident that killed the youth and his nine year old brother Jake.

"Basically our Critical Incident Reconstruction Team will be re-constructing the accident and we're looking at several weeks", Henderson said. "The report will be finalized and we'll give it to the prosecutor for review. Further charges will be up to the prosecutor, we will put a package together with our recommendations."
