GAINESVILLE - Some Hall County officials will meet informally Wednesday to discuss the latest rash of accidents that have occurred on Lake Lanier.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said he is expecting a visit from Hall County Commissioner Craig Lutz and a couple of other county officials to discuss boating safety on Lake Lanier.

Kimbrell said the meeting is meant to be informal and more of an information-sharing meeting.

Lutz, in an interview with CBS Atlanta TV, said he has no set ideas on which safety measures should be implemented on Lake Lanier.

"They're all ideas that are being tossed around," he said when questioned about licensing, safety courses and more enforcement. "I can' say that any one idea is better than the other one until we get a chance to sit down and take a look at it."

The Hall County Commission at a recent meeting agreed to have County Administrator Randy Knighton draft a letter to local legislators encouraging a change in the legal limit at which a boater is considered impaired by alcohol. Right now, that limit is .10.

The concerns over lake safety have been brought to light over the deaths June 18 of Jake and Griffin Prince of Buford in a boating crash, as well as a jet ski accident last Friday that left an 11-year-old Atlanta boy hospitalized in critical condition with a head injury.
