BUFORD - Gwinnett County authorities said 14 people who were displaced when health officials closed an apartment building due to bat infestation have been cleared to return home.

Health officials had closed the apartment building at 600 Powers Avenue in Buford after bats were discovered in the attic of the complex and in several units.

Gwinnett County Public Health Department spokeswoman Karen Shields said the American Red Cross and county and state officials assisted the families after the apartment building was shut down.

Authorities said the families were allowed to return to the building on Monday afternoon.
