GAINESVILLE - In advance of the grand opening of the Georgia Mountain Food Bank's new facility in south Hall County, officials with the food bank are asking the community to collect food this week to stock the shelves of the new building.

The 20,000-square-foot facility will be located just off Calvary Church Road and is five times larger than the food bank's current facility. Food bank officials have said the larger center will enable them to distribute more than five times the current amount of food to the needy.

The Georgia Mountain Food Bank serves Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Lumpkin and Union counties.

The grand opening of the new facility at the Boomershine Family Logistics Center at 1642 Calvary Industrial Drive is Friday, August 17 at noon. Governor Deal is among the speakera who will speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Food bank officials are asking the community to collect non-perishable food items this week and drop them off at the new site Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
