SUGAR HILL - Gwinnett County police have charged a man as a Peeping Tom after a family said he hid under their mobile home and cut a hole in their bathroom floor.

According to police, Steven Appling of Buford peeled away the skirting of the mobile home on Hickory Hills Drive in Sugar Hill and then shoved a mattress underneath the home. Police said that Appling chiseled away a hole in the floor underneath the bathroom. That enabled the suspect to watch the family in the bathroom while he rested on the mattress.

Police said Appling was caught after a man in the house spotted him Sunday night and chased him. The family asked that they not be identified.

Appling also faces charges of burglary and loitering.
