GAINESVILLE - The owner of a Hall County home destroyed by fire Tuesday morning has been charged with arson.

Hall County Fire Lt. Beverley Walker said Pedro Gonzales-Rodrigues, 42, turned himself in to authorities. He apparently returned to the scene of the fire at 3680 Clarks Bridge Road and called 9-1-1 to say he had purposely set the house on fire.

Authorities said Gonzales-Rodrigues told them he had had recent financial and personal difficulties that prompted him to start the fire.

The 2000 square-foot house was found burning Tuesday morning around 1:25 a.m.

Walker said investigators will be at the Hall County Jail Wednesday morning to talk further with Gonzales-Rodriques.
