UNDATED - It was a girl for Hall County and a boy for Habersham County, as two hospitals in the region welcomed the first babies of 2013 on the first day of the year.

Leah Ruth Patrick, weighing eight pounds, five ounces, was born at 9:12 a.m. this New Year's Day at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Charge Nurse Denise Williamson in Labor and Delivery says Mom and her new daughter are doing just fine.

"We're doing good and couldn't be happier," said Mom Sheryl Patrick."She's a beautiful baby girl, she's happy healthy and already smiling."

"It's an awesome feeling and I appreciate God's miracles," Dad, Scott Patrick added.

It appears 13 is a lucky if not coincidental number for the Patrick family.
Nurse Williamson said Leah is the couple's third girl in the household, with the oldest 13 years old and the second daughter 13 months old.

And at the Habersham Medical Center the first baby of 2013 is Koen Keith Alexander.

He was born just before 3:00 a.m. and weighed almost six pounds.

His parents are Amber Long and Andy Alexander of Cornelia.

Long stated she never expected to have a New Year's baby as Koen was born three weeks early.
