Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said the house on Seymour road was destroyed, engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 5:30 a.m.
"We know that something is up, we just don't exactly know whether it would be vagrants, juveniles playing in there or someone just simply trying to burn it down. Those are all things that we are going to be looking into," Cagle said.
He said it appears there was no electrical service powering the house at the time of the fire, but was working to confirm that with Georgia Power.
Cagle said a bystander told investigators the house had been vacant for about six months. Investigators believe the house and 119 acres had been for sale for some time.
Investigators continued to pick through the rubble looking for answers Tuesday afternoon.
"It'll take a little bit to dig everything out and look at that room of origin, which appears to be some sort of shop. We need to talk to the last owner and see what this particular room was being used for," Cagle said.
