LAWRENCEVILLE - Police say an 84-year-old man accused of pointing a gun at two women protesting President Barack Obama in suburban Atlanta has been arrested.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Ed Ritter told Atlanta's Channel 2 News Roy Smith is charged with three counts of simple assault and pointing a firearm at another.

Toni Pendley and Marge Moore were standing along a county highway calling for Obama to be impeached when a man drove up to them and pulled a gun. A witness copied down the car's tag number.

Police say they served a search warrant and found a gun in Smith's car. Smith denies the allegations and told investigators he kept the gun nearby in case he was ever carjacked.

Smith is free on $1,000 bond.
