GAINESVILLE - In an event described as emotional for all involved, two Gainesville police officers were reunited with a little boy they rescued from a burning home in Gainesville Saturday morning.

Cpl. Drew Reed and Officer Steven Folkers traveled to Grady Hospital in Atlanta to check on Jeremiah Williams, age 7. The child was one of nine people inside a house that caught fire on Banks Street Saturday. When the officers arrived at the scene around 1:30 a.m., the other occupants had managed to get out of the house, but Jeremiah was trapped inside.

Reed and Folkers managed to pull the boy from a window of the burning house.

"Those officers made that split-second decision to put their lives at risk and save the child," said Cpl. Kevin Holbroook, a Gainesville Police Department spokesman.

Jeremiah, who is a student at White Sulphur Elementary School, remains at Gradh Hospital, being treated for burns to his face and head.
