CLEVELAND - Following the recent news that White County school system had the third-highest graduation rate in the state, the school system added one more graduate to the list with a student receiving her second-chance graduation diploma during a White County Board of Education meeting.

White County High School Principal John Osborne said Shannon Coker, who was part of the Class of 2013, had three parts of the five-part state graduation test to complete before she could be awarded her diploma. Osborne said Coker was determined to finish those requirements.

"It s kinda ironic that it s here on the cusps of us receiving that 94.4-percent grad rate," Osborne said. "She s one of the reasons why - and we love that persistence in kids - that makes them winners."

After receiving word that Coker had passed all required segments of the test White County officials planned a graduation ceremony during the Board of Education meeting.
