BUFORD - A couple of house fires in Buford kept Gwinnett County firefighters busy early Saturday morning.

Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said crews were called first to a home at 5320 Sycamore Road in Buford at 6:25 a.m. He said the one story house sustained moderate damage. The fire appears to be accidental and originated from a fire burning in a fireplace/wood stove insert. Rutledge said the two adults and several animals were displaced as a result of the fire, but no one was hurt.

About an hour later, fire crews were called to a house at 3251 Camp Branch Road, also in Buford. Rutledge said the caller reported that an outbuilding near the house was hit by lightning during a thunderstorm. He said it appears that the lightning ran down an electrical line into the house. There were injuries reported in the second fire.
