GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville area got just over two inches of rain on Saturday and Sunday; that was bad news for Easter eggs hunts and other festivities, but good news as the drought continues to loosen its grip on the state.

The level of Lake Lanier early this morning was 1069.24, about nine inches away from full winter pool of 1070.

According forecasters, Gainesville got just 2.04 inches of rain Saturday and Sunday, while Athens received 2.41 inches during the same time period and the Lawrenceville area come up just shy of the two inch mark at 1.97 inches of rain.

The Associated Press reported that heavy rains and winds interfered with Macon's Cherry Blossom Festival and caused a tree to fall on a truck and vacant apartment building in Atlanta.

Atlanta police said no one was injured when the huge oak fell about 12:30 p.m. Sunday on 13th Street.

In Macon, officials with the Cherry Blossom Festival said heavy rains forced the cancellation of activities Sunday afternoon at Central City Park.
