GAINESVILLE - The Longstreet Society will hold its Annual Bivouac this Saturday, April 27 at the historic Piedmont Hotel at 827 Maple Street.

The yearly event allows members and non-members to remember the life of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, the second in command for General Robert E. Lee.

In addition to music, games and food, members dressed in period costume offer tours of the Piedmont Hotel. This year, General and Mrs. U.S. Grant will be in attendance, as well.

The event will take place rain or shine.

The Longstreet Society was formed in 1994 to honor the life of Lt. Gen. James Longstreet, know by Lee as his "Old War Horse." The Society maintains the hotel and offers tours and educational programming. The Society also hosts an annual seminar at various battlefields important to Longstreet's story.
