Peachtree City - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for numerous Georgia counties, including several in our area.

The watch is scheduled to expire at 8 p.m. tonight, and covers the following area counties:

Banks, Bartow, Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White

According to the NWS website, soils across much of north Georgia are already saturated from the past 24-36 hours of rainfall, where 1.5-2 inches of rain have already fallen. Another 1-2 inches of rain is possible today over those same areas.

Localized flash flooding will be possible if the heavy rains of this weekend move over areas that are already heavily saturated. Also, storm drains, ditches and other low lying areas may quickly become clogged with debris and cause extensive street flooding.

It is recommended that individuals monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should a flash flood warning be issued.
