GAINESVILLE - With the National Day of Prayer approaching on Thursday, a Christian businessmen's group is once again holding its annual prayer breakfast in Gainesville.

Brad Farrow with The Fishermen says Governor Nathan Deal is scheduled to make comments at the event; so is Dr. Robert Myers, President of Toccoa Falls College.

"The overall goal [of National Day of Prayer] is just to encourage people to pray for our nation," said Farrow.

And while the breakfast is sponsored by a Christian group, Farrow said the observance, which was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952, is designed for people of all faiths.

"All faiths, all people are encouraged to pray and participate," said Farrow.

He said The Fishermen are selling tickets to the breakfast, which will begin at 6:45 a.m. Thursday at the Gainesville Civic Center on Green Street. Tickets are $15 each or $120 for a table of eight. For reservations, call 770-536-0592. Farrow said a limited number of tickets will be available at the door Thursday morning.

Farrow also said that the second annual Prayer on the Square event sponsored by the Hall County Prayer Network is scheduled for noon Thursday on the downtown Gainesville square. Organizers typically invite leaders from different areas of the community to offer prayer during the event. Prayer on the Square is a free event.
