GAINESVILLE - The Kiwanis Club of Gainesville recently announced the winners of the 7th Annual Charles J. Thurmond Youth Art Scholarship Awards.

The Thurmond Youth Art Scholarship provides scholarship money to the top three finishers in the categories of Performing, Visual and Writing Arts. The Kiwanis Club of Gainesville awards the scholarships upon the student's enrollment to college.

The competition event and the scholarships are named to memorialize and honor
Gainesvillian and Kiwanian, Charles J. Thurmond. In his honor, and in
memory of their true friendship, another Gainesvillian, who wishes to remain
anonymous, has made a significant contribution to the Gainesville Club in an effort to recognize the artistic accomplishments of area youth.
